Club History
Mississippi Headwaters Retriever Club is located 10 miles south of Bemidji, Minnesota on Hwy 71.
The club was formed in 1965 by sportsmen in the Bemidji area. In 1998 the club changed its name to the Headwaters Gun Dog Club to respond to sportsmen in the area who wanted to be involved with other hunting breeds.
In 2002 the club voted to change the name to Headwaters Retriever Club and apply for accreditation from the American Kennel Club. After holding four successful Plan A events, AKC accredited the club as the Mississippi Headwaters Retriever Club. With over 195 entries, MHRC hosted its first AKC sanctioned Hunt Test in July, 2003
